Create or join a household

Name your household, invite your partner by email, and understand exactly what joining does — sharing stays your choice, account by account.

A household is how two people see one financial picture without merging their privacy. Joining one shares nothing on its own — every account stays at whatever level its owner picked.

You already have a household

Fyncora creates a household for you when you sign up, named after you. There's nothing to create: what you actually do is rename it, then invite someone into it.

You can belong to one household at a time.

Rename it

  1. Open Settings → Household.
  2. Under Household Settings, edit Household Name.
  3. Set the Base Currency if it isn't right.
  4. Select Save Changes.

You'll see Settings saved successfully! and the new name in the members card.

Note:

Note: the name is editable by the household owner only, and the currency by the owner or an admin. If the fields are greyed out, that's why.

Invite someone

  1. Open Settings → Household.
  2. In the Members card, select Invite Member.
  3. Enter their Email Address.
  4. Choose a RoleMember, or Admin if you're the owner.
  5. Choose how long the invite stays valid under Invite valid for (3, 7, 14 or 30 days).
  6. Select Send Invite.

You'll see the invite listed under Invites as Waiting, and they'll get an email with an Accept invitation button.

Tip:

Tip: if the email doesn't arrive, use Copy Link on the invite row and send it yourself — it's the same link the email contains. Fyncora copies it for you automatically when the email can't be sent.

Note:

Note: one pending invite per email address. Inviting the same person twice tells you an invite has already been sent.

Accept an invite

  1. Open the invite link from the email (or the link you were sent).
  2. Sign in to Fyncora if you aren't already.
  3. Read the household name and the role you've been offered.
  4. Select Accept.

You'll see Welcome to the household! and land on Settings → Household, switched to the household view.

Warning:

Warning: accepting an invite moves your accounts and transactions into that household, and there's no one-button undo. Be sure you're joining the right one.

Note:

Note: the invite must be accepted by the email address it was sent to — signing in with a different address will refuse it.

If you don't have an account yet

Create the account first, then open the invite link again. Signing up doesn't carry you back to the invite automatically, so the link is the step that joins you.

Tip:

Tip: keep the invite email — the link stays valid until it expires or the sender revokes it, so you can come back to it whenever you're ready.

Who can do what

Owner — the person whose household it is. Only the owner can rename the household or invite an admin.

Admin — can invite and remove members and change household settings, but not rename the household.

Member — full participant in shared data, no management rights. A member sees no management buttons at all.

Each person's row shows their role as a badge, plus the date they joined. There's no limit on how many people a household can hold.

Manage invites you've sent

The Invites card lists everything not yet accepted, with a status of Waiting, Expired or Declined, and how long is left.

  • Copy Link — grab the invite URL to share directly.
  • Resend — email it again and extend the deadline.
  • The bin icon cancels an invite.
Warning:

Warning: cancelling an invite happens immediately, with no confirmation step, and the link stops working straight away. Resend also resets the expiry to seven days from now, whichever window you originally chose.

Remove someone

Owners and admins can remove a member with the bin icon on their row, then Remove in the confirmation dialog.

Warning:

Warning: removing a member unlinks their accounts from the household. Their data goes with them — nothing of theirs stays in your household view, and nothing of yours travels with them.

Switch between your view and the household's

Once a household genuinely has more than one active person, a View control appears at the top of the sidebar with Personal and Household. Personal shows only your own money; Household adds what others share with you, at the level they chose.

Solo households don't show the control — there'd be nothing to switch to.

What actually gets shared

Joining doesn't expose anything by itself. Sharing is decided per account by its owner, at one of three levels, and the household's Default Privacy Settings for New Accounts decide the starting point for accounts you add later.

Read How account sharing levels work before you invite anyone — it's the part that matters.

FAQ

Can I be in two households? No. One household per person, and joining a new one moves your data out of your old one.

Can I delete a household? No. There's no delete action — a household exists for the life of the account that owns it.

Does my partner see my private accounts? No. Private accounts contribute nothing to household views, and amounts only accounts show the amount without the detail.

Can I change someone's role after they join? Not from the app today. Remove and re-invite them at the role you want.

Are kids part of this? No — kids have a separate space with their own PIN sign-in. See Set up a kid's profile.
